This is a suggested script for this page, which has the 4 part Tutor/Mentor Connection Strategy:

welcome to our animated strategy map. This map helps us explain our 4 part Tutor/Mentor Connection strategy. Explore the map by scrolling over each element and clicking to learn more.

--THE TUTOR MENTOR CONNECTION
The Tutor/Mentor Connection was founded in 1993 seeking to answer the question: "What can we do to help every youth tutoring/mentoring program in Chicago be more successful at helping connect at-risk kids with the resources they need to succeed?" We have approached this question systematically over the past decade and a half using a 4 part strategy.

--STRATEGY I
Our first strategy is to collect and organize knowledge about youth tutoring/mentoring. We run a volunteer-based youth tutor/mentor program, Cabrini Connections, which serves 7th-12th grade youth living in Cabrini-Green. We also keep a web library that organizes the knowledge we've gained in an easily accessible format so others can learn from us.

--STRATEGY II
Our second strategy raises public awareness about the 150+ tutor/mentor programs that are currently operating in Chicago, and the need for more, in order to serve the large number of youth growing up in poverty. We run public awareness campaigns that seek to build reach and frequency of our "get involved with inner-city children" message as well as connect potential clients, volunteers and donors with programs through our online Tutor/Mentor Program Locator.

--STRATEGY III
Our third strategy is to facilitate understanding and collaboration amongst everyone who has a stake in the future of at-risk Chicagoland youth. This includes businesses, schools, tutor/mentor programs, philanthropists and the students themselves. We host 2 Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking conferences/year as well as provide regularly updated content on our half dozen or so blogs and websites.

--STRATEGY IV
Our fourth strategy builds on the first 3 strategies, aiming to directly increase resources available for tutor/mentor programs around the city. Our goal is to work directly with every program in Chicagoland to systematically recruit volunteers, dollars and publicity for every Chicagoland program.

--CABRINI CONNECTIONS
For over 15 years, we have operated Cabrini Connections, our own tutor/mentor program that serves around 70 7th-12th grade youth from the Cabrini-Green neighborhood. Our experiences operating our Cabrini Connections program inform our work with the Tutor/Mentor Connection and vice versa.

--A CONNECTION OF VOLUNTEERS
Both academic research and personal testimony show that connecting a youth with a caring volunteer can make a profound, life-changing difference in both of their lives. For this reason, we engage nearly 100 volunteers in
our Cabrini Connections program with ~70 youth and facilitate tutoring/mentoring relationships around the city through the Tutor/Mentor Connection.
